Meta made its AI Developer Assistant the first stop for developer support, so developers describe a problem in plain language rather than digging through documentation or filing a ticket and waiting on a reply. The assistant answers from Meta's API references, developer docs, and platform data, along with the context of a developer's own app. Meta laid off roughly 8,000 people in May, about 10% of the company, and moved another 7,000 into AI teams, having already handed content moderation to AI agents. Its AI support tools have failed before, when a bug let attackers redirect password reset links to addresses that weren't on the account and take over about 20,000 Instagram accounts at the end of May.
