AWS CEO Matt Garman said Amazon should speak up more about what data centers do for the towns around them, arguing on the A16z Show podcast that people who oppose the buildings still want services like Netflix that run on them. Netflix said in its 2025 annual report that it does most of its computing on AWS. Garman also said Amazon should tell residents how much its facilities lower their local taxes, offering a hypothetical $5,000 cut in someone’s bill as an example. That opposition is widespread, with 71% of registered voters in a September Fox News poll saying they’re against building an AI data center in their area.
