Meta lets Facebook users tell its feed algorithm in plain language what they want to see, using LLMs in its ranking systems

Meta is rolling out a “your algorithm” menu on Facebook, reachable from individual posts and Reels, where users can add topics to their interests or to a “not interested in” list and type out in their own words what they want in their feed. Meta says the feature works because its ranking systems now use large language models, which can read a plain-language request instead of guessing interests only from what someone clicks and likes. Instagram got the same tool earlier this year, but Karissa Bell at Engadget found that version wouldn’t let her ask for more posts from accounts she follows or for fewer ads. Fewer ads? LOL. Meta probably responded with, “How dare you?!?”
