Meta employees compete on an internal AI token leaderboard called “Claudeonomics” that tracked 60 trillion tokens in 30 days

Meta employees are vying for titles like “Token Legend” and “Session Immortal” on an internal leaderboard called “Claudeonomics,” a grassroots ranking built on the company's intranet that tracks AI token usage across more than 85,000 employees and lists the top 250 power users. The leaderboard logged 60 trillion tokens over a recent 30-day period, with the top individual user averaging 281 billion tokens, and is part of a broader Silicon Valley trend called “tokenmaxxing” that has turned AI consumption into a competitive proxy for productivity. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said last month he would be “deeply alarmed” if a $500,000-per-year engineer wasn't burning at least $250,000 in AI tokens annually, while Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth has publicly encouraged engineers to spend the equivalent of their salaries on tokens.
