Meta added a paid developer tier to its most advanced AI model, Muse Spark 1.1, the first time the company has charged businesses to access its models. Its new Meta Model API prices access at roughly 25% of what OpenAI and Anthropic charge, free up to a token threshold and paid beyond it, a deliberate undercut Zuckerberg called aggressive. Zuckerberg pointed to agentic reasoning and coding as the model’s biggest gains and said it tested better than Google’s Gemini across several agent, coding, and multimodal categories, though Meta still trails OpenAI and Anthropic. Muse Spark 1.1 is part of Meta’s pivot from free open-source releases toward closed models it can monetize, a shift Zuckerberg said required rebuilding much of the technology from scratch.
