Meta blocks a Barcelona theatre’s ads for a Virginia Woolf play and tells it to strip out the words that tripped review

Meta’s automated ad review blocked a Barcelona theatre from promoting its stage adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s “A Room of One’s Own,” according to the Guardian. Teatre Raval said the posts were rejected on both Facebook and Instagram, and Meta’s reply said “any mention of civil rights, feminism or social reform are usually classified as ‘social topics’ by our automatic system.” The company advised the theatre to strip key words so the campaign would clear review, without identifying which words had tripped it. Clara Sanchis, the actor who performs it, told La Vanguardia she can’t tell whether Woolf’s name or the word feminism triggered the rejection, and called it a way of erasing advances that took centuries to win.
