Meta began notifying approximately 8,000 employees on Wednesday that their roles have been eliminated as part of the company's previously announced 10% workforce reduction, with an internal email obtained by Business Insider explaining the cuts were part of a “continued effort to run the company more efficiently and to allow us to offset the other investments we're making.” The layoffs come just two days after Meta reassigned 7,000 employees to four new AI-focused organizations using “AI native design structures” with fewer managers per employee, as the company continues to invest heavily under CEO Mark Zuckerberg's plan to spend $115B-$135B on AI infrastructure this year. The Wednesday notifications were sent at 4 a.m. local time and employees were asked to work remotely that day, with company badges deactivated and access to internal Meta systems removed immediately.
