Meta acquired 43 US patents from Sony for an undisclosed price, covering head-mounted displays, XR glasses, and how XR apps process information, according to US patent assignment records. Those 43, which Sony filed between 2010 and 2022, are the portion recorded so far under an agreement the two companies signed in December 2025 to move 419 Sony patents to Meta worldwide, including 180 in the US. The patents go to Meta as it gets ready to launch $1,299 VR glasses next spring, its first new VR device since the Quest 3.
