Mercari, the online resale marketplace, named Jeff LeBeau, its current VP of growth, as CEO of its US business effective July 1, taking over from group CEO Shintaro Yamada, who had run the US unit directly since early 2025. The handoff comes as Mercari US steadies after a rough stretch, when a 2024 fee shift onto buyers backfired with complaints and a 45% US layoff, before a January 2025 reversal splitting fees between buyers and sellers helped it post its first full-year profit and grow GMV about 12% YoY to roughly $196M last quarter. LeBeau’s task is turning that cost discipline into stronger buyer demand and seller trust, without reigniting the fee issues that drove users off, while competing for resale dollars against eBay, Poshmark, Depop, and Vinted.
