Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote on X that AI labs should bring in independent evaluators and advisers who can check that their models are safe, his first public comment since Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an essay calling for a slowdown in frontier AI development. Zuckerberg wrote that Meta held back its Muse AI tool for several months to work on safety and security, and that it did so without first asking other companies to follow. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang made a similar case the same day at a Salesforce event, where he said AI doesn’t need new laws or regulations because companies can pause themselves when a product isn’t safe. Sam Altman, who had endorsed Amodei’s essay, said at the same event that AI companies can improve their models safely on their own.
