Manus resumes operating independently after Chinese regulators forced Meta to unwind its $2B deal, and users must back up data

Manus is going back to independent ownership after Chinese regulators ordered Meta's $2B acquisition unwound. The National Development and Reform Commission ruled in April that both sides had to withdraw the transaction, roughly four months after Meta announced it, and the separation has been working its way through since. Some users now have to back up anything they made on or after December 29, the day the deal went public, a step Manus said is needed to satisfy regulators in certain markets. Tencent has been in talks since July to take the largest external stake in the company.
