Shopping queries run through Google’s AI Mode produced about 95% fewer product results than the same queries on standard search, according to Productrise. Two effects compound to make that gap, since standard search turned up products for roughly 88% of queries against 23% for AI Mode, and averaged 22.5 products per page against 4.3. Overlap between the surfaces was almost nil, with just 0.8% of the products that appeared in standard search also turning up in AI Mode that same day, meaning a top slot in one predicts nothing about the other. Productrise looked at more than 2 million listings across over 100,000 search pages and AI Mode answers during 21 days in July, restricted to the US and UK and to product-centric queries it already monitors.
