OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra, an upgrade to its mid-tier model built for computer use, where the AI looks at a screen and operates apps by clicking and typing like a person. Developers pay $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens through the API, half of what GPT-5.6 Terra costs. In OpenAI’s own testing, the new model keeps pace with its pricier GPT-6 Astra while costing a tenth as much per token, and it finishes work more than three times as fast as Astra or GPT-6.1 Sol. Terra is rolling out to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers in ChatGPT Work and Codex, where usage limits stretch further than on Sol or Astra, but OpenAI still tells users to pick those two models for deep research and complex coding.
