The Competition Appeal Tribunal signed off on Google’s £260 million settlement with UK app developers, clearing the way for payouts on a claim over Play Store commissions that had been valued at more than £1 billion. Developers who sold through the UK store share £160 million, the other £100 million covers legal costs and the funders who backed the case, and Google conceded nothing. It now goes to trial on October 5 in a separate claim from Liz Coll, who argues the 30% commission Google charged developers reached roughly 20 million UK consumers as higher prices. That one runs opt-out, so anyone who paid for an app, digital content or a subscription on Google Play between October 2015 and July of this year is in the class unless they leave it. Google disputes the claim.
