Google began allowing personalized gambling ads on YouTube in the US, UK, and Canada on October 30, matching a change for alcohol ads that also took effect in late October. Advertisers can target gambling ads using audience groups Google builds, such as interests, demographics, and location, but they can’t upload their own customer lists or target people based on gambling-related health information, and ads still can’t reach anyone under 18. Prediction markets fall under the same gambling rules, but Google’s separate policy only approves them in the US, and not in Connecticut, Michigan, Nevada, New York, or Ohio. Certified gambling advertisers also became eligible for YouTube’s homepage Masthead ads on October 21.
