Google agreed to a $50M class action settlement resolving claims that it discriminated against Black employees by failing to hire them, assigning them to lower job levels, paying them less, and failing to promote them in a racially hostile work environment, covering employees who worked in job levels 3 through 6 in California from March 2018 through December 2023 and in New York from October 2017 through December 2023. Google has not admitted any wrongdoing as part of the settlement, which also includes non-monetary relief requiring the company to continue analyzing employee pay for unexplained racial differences, maintain employee reporting channels, and provide information about salary ranges. The final approval hearing is scheduled for May 7, 2026.
