Abdulrahman Alfozan, the former OpenAI engineer accused of hiding a recorder behind a TV in an executive conference room, pleaded not guilty in federal court in San Francisco on Friday to a single charge of intercepting oral communications. According to prosecutors, a chatbot account belonging to his wife, which shared identifying details with his own account, was used in late September to ask how to build, hide, test and remotely access an audio recorder, and some of those prompts referred to the exact device found in the room. The complaint doesn’t accuse his wife of a crime or say she typed the prompts herself. Alfozan remains in custody after a judge ruled him a flight risk, and his next hearing is set for November 17.
