Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier sent letters on September 24 to Google, Meta, Reddit, Snap, and TikTok warning that running ads for sweepstakes casinos to Florida residents is illegal, and each company has until October 23 to lay out in writing what it’s doing to keep those ads away from Floridians. The letters single out Stake and three VGW brands, Chumba Casino, LuckyLand, and Global Poker, which Uthmeier sued in August along with payment processors including Worldpay and Trustly, alleging their dual-currency coin systems are real-money gambling in disguise. Uthmeier wrote that his office will pursue anyone who facilitates the sites as well as the operators, and called advertising them “similarly unlawful.”
