Elon Musk posted on X that next year he plans to hand each American child one SpaceX share from his own stake, which with roughly 72 million Americans under 18, would come to about $10.5 billion in stock based on today’s value. Musk had replied a day earlier to Anthropic’s plan to set aside 5% of its shares for a public benefit fund, saying the shares should go straight to the public. He hasn’t said which children qualify, how they would claim the shares, or whether they’d have to hold them for a while before selling, but in a later post, Musk hinted the shares could go through Trump Accounts, which under rules Treasury published in September can receive donated stock that generally can’t be sold for five years.
