Ecommerce category pages draw 12.42% of AI search citations on commercial-intent prompts, nearly double the 7.14% for product pages, according to Wix Studio’s study of answers from ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, and Perplexity. On informational prompts, category pages fall to 1.74%. Wasim Kagzi, an SEO strategist at the agency Digital Commerce Partners, argued in Search Engine Land that other studies found lower shares, like DeltaV Digital’s 5.2%, because they used a different mix of prompts. Kagzi recommends that merchants add attribute comparisons and use cases to collection pages, since DeltaV found comparison pages get cited far more often per retrieval than plain category pages.
