eBay bans gift card sales in Australia from November 12, and a seller notice points to a similar US ban on November 16

eBay will ban all gift card sales in Australia starting November 12, citing fraud and misuse, and a seller email posted on Reddit shows a nearly identical US ban taking effect four days later, according to Liz Morton at Value Added Resource. The Australian ban covers digital codes, prepaid gaming cards, and store credit, and even extends to empty or expired cards that collectors buy as memorabilia even though they hold no value. eBay hasn’t confirmed the US change, and its US gift card policy still allows collectible cards and listings up to $500 in face value. The ban goes well beyond eBay’s decision in June to stop selling its own gift cards, when it said sellers could keep listing other brands’ cards.
