Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the Trump administration trusts Anthropic again, telling Axios the company has done what was asked of it and is “back on the right side.” Relations broke down this year after Anthropic refused to let the government use Claude for domestic spying or autonomous weapons, which brought export controls on its most advanced models and a Pentagon designation of the company as a supply-chain risk. A federal judge threw out that designation in August as a violation of Anthropic’s constitutional rights, and the company is still contesting a second Pentagon designation in the DC Circuit. Co-founder Tom Brown, who held repeated talks with Lutnick and National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross, headlined the G20 Innovation Ministerial in Chapel Hill this week.
