Canadian AI firm Cohere announced its acquisition of Montreal-based Reliant AI, a pharmaceutical industry AI startup whose clients include GSK, Ipsen, and Kyowa Kirin, with terms undisclosed and Reliant having previously raised $13.5M in venture capital. Cohere plans to integrate Reliant's technology into a pharma-specific version of its North platform, which has previously been tailored for financial services and telecom sectors with anchor customers including RBC and STC Group. The deal comes as Cohere faces increased competition from OpenAI and Anthropic in the enterprise vertical AI market, with the company currently raising a new funding round to which Schwarz Group (Lidl's parent) has committed $600M.
