CNN signed a multiyear deal with Google that pays the network for its articles to feed Google’s AI answers to news questions, with CNN credited as the source, according to Corbin Bolies at Variety. In a memo to staff, CNN strategic partnerships chief Sam Felix said the companies will also develop AI features, search products, and newsroom tools together, but neither side has disclosed terms. The deal joins CNN to a Google pilot that uses AI to send readers to publishers’ sites, which already includes The Guardian, The Washington Post, Der Spiegel, and El País. It also comes months after CNN sued Perplexity for copyright infringement when licensing talks between the two broke down.
