China’s government and AI engineers are rejecting Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s call for a global AI slowdown, which he said would need China’s cooperation, as a move to lock in the US lead, according to Kinling Lo at Rest of World. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun called it fear-mongering and vicious competition, and the state-backed Global Times accused Amodei of running a Cold War playbook, since his plan also calls for cutting off China’s access to advanced chips and chipmaking equipment. Tao He, head of R&D at MiniMax Code, asked on X why US labs always get to set the rules, while Huawei rotating chairman Eric Xu suggested Chinese developers should accelerate until they too can feel the same risks US labs describe.
