AsiaPay, a Hong Kong payment gateway founded in 2000 with 17 offices across Asia-Pacific, began piloting Voice Pay, which lets shoppers confirm a purchase by speaking to their phone and pay with a card or wallet such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, WeChat Pay, Alipay, or Octopus. Once a customer gives the spoken instruction, AsiaPay’s own systems handle the authentication, fraud checks, routing, and processing, and payments are secured with biometrics and tokenization. Merchants already on AsiaPay can switch Voice Pay on without any development work, while new merchants have to connect through its API. CEO Joseph Chan described the product as AsiaPay’s answer to agentic commerce as payment networks race to build AI into their systems.
