Amazon is recruiting former employees, including some it laid off, for open roles in AWS and its AI businesses after cutting more than 30,000 jobs over the past year, according to recruiting emails seen by Business Insider. In one email last month, a recruiter for the AI agent group run by AWS VP Swami Sivasubramanian pitched former AI and machine learning staff on “Swami’s Boomerang Reengagement Initiative.” An AWS Finance recruiter separately offered one former employee a shortened interview path and asked whether the five-day office mandate had pushed them out. Spokesperson Haley Silva said rehiring former workers is a longstanding practice across Amazon, that it isn’t targeting people who left over RTO, and that its office rules haven’t changed.
