U.S. District Judge Edward Davila set Apple’s trade secrets case against OpenAI for trial on July 19, 2027, about a year after Apple sued in July, alleging that former Apple employees Tang Tan and Chang Liu brought confidential Apple files with them when they left for OpenAI. The schedule also gives the lead lawyers on both sides until June 1 to sit down and talk about a possible settlement, which is a routine step in federal cases. Davila has already said Apple is likely to win a preliminary injunction, and OpenAI has since agreed not to use any of Apple’s alleged trade secrets while the case plays out.
