Anthropic’s Fable 5 generated 75% as much business spending in July as OpenAI’s cheaper GPT-5.6 Sol, according to Ramp’s AI Index. Anthropic still leads on adoption, with 43.5% of US businesses on its products against 39.7% for OpenAI, while Google slipped to 6.2% and xAI reached 4%. Ramp economist Ara Kharazian said the Google figure is probably understated, since much of that usage arrives bundled through Workspace. Fable 5 had a rough month, pulled offline by a government order, restored July 1, then repriced more than once. Spending is climbing faster than adoption, with the heaviest-spending 1% of firms paying a median $7,400 per employee in July against under $5,000 in June, which Kharazian attributed to coding agents that trigger more tasks and run up costs.
