Anthropic has told prospective IPO investors that a chip design team of 15 people it formed this year already uses Claude to engineer the company’s custom AI chips, according to The Information. Some people familiar with those meetings said Claude helps the team finish design work faster than engineers would expect at Nvidia or AMD. Anthropic hasn’t said whether it will sell Claude for chip design, but one executive at an AI chip design startup said Anthropic has approached electronic design automation companies about buying or using their design data. Selling chip design tools would put Anthropic up against Synopsys and Cadence, as well as OpenAI, which said its own models helped it build the Jalapeño chip with Broadcom in nine months.
