Anthropic’s revenue more than doubled to $11.6B for the June quarter and it posted a small operating profit, passing OpenAI in quarterly sales for the first time, according to The Wall Street Journal. OpenAI told shareholders its own revenue rose 18% to $6.7B over the same three months, less progress than some of them wanted to see against Anthropic. OpenAI’s losses also widened, moving it further from profitability with a long-awaited IPO ahead of it. Slowing ChatGPT growth and the success of Claude Code have forced OpenAI to overhaul its leadership, and it replaced chief revenue officer Denise Dresser last week after earlier exits by former COO Brad Lightcap and Fidji Simo. OpenAI has told investors its growth rate picked up after it launched new models in July.
