Anthropic launched Claude Haiku 5.5, its smallest model, at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts of up to 100,000 tokens, which is 90% less than Haiku 4.5 charged. Longer prompts cost $0.50 and $2.50, half the old rate, and because the new model counts slightly more tokens per task, Anthropic puts the typical savings at about 75%. Haiku 5.5 is built to handle the repetitive, narrowly scoped steps inside multi-agent systems, leaving Sonnet and Opus free for harder work, and it’s the first Haiku with a setting that lets developers dial effort up or down. Anthropic also halved what Sonnet 5.5 charges for cache reads, to $0.10 per million tokens, which it says lowers the cost of most agent tasks by around 20%.
