Anthropic acquires AI biotech startup Coefficient Bio for approximately $400M

Anthropic has acquired Coefficient Bio, a startup founded last fall that built an AI platform for drug discovery, clinical regulatory strategy, and R&D planning, for approximately $400 million, with the company's team joining Anthropic's healthcare life sciences group. The deal is notable given that Coefficient Bio has fewer than ten employees, making it one of the most expensive per-employee acquisitions in recent memory, and reflects Anthropic's accelerating push to build industry-specific AI tools beyond its core Claude API and Claude Code products. Anthropic already has life sciences partnerships with Sanofi, Novo Nordisk, AbbVie, Genmab, and others, and has been steadily expanding its healthcare capabilities including HIPAA-compliant clinical tools launched in January.
