Amazon plans to build a robotics manufacturing plant in Greenwood, Indiana, for more than $100 million, and it should open by 2028 with 300 manufacturing and engineering jobs paying close to $100,000 on average. The Indiana plant and an Austin hub that Amazon announced last month will double its robot-making sites to four, joining two in Massachusetts that build models like the Sparrow arm and the Proteus cart mover only for Amazon’s own use. Amazon says the more than one million robots it has rolled out in the past decade now play a part in 75% of its orders. The company argues those robots have created skilled jobs and cut recordable injuries by more than 40%, but Rosenblatt Securities analyst Scott Devitt said the shift could still displace some fulfillment center workers.
