Amazon sends settlement checks for deceptive Prime tactics

Amazon began distributing payments from a record $2.5 billion settlement with the FTC to resolve accusations of deceptive Prime enrollment and cancellation tactics. The agreement allocated $1.5 billion for consumer refunds and a $1 billion civil penalty, with eligible U.S. members receiving up to $51 if they enrolled between June 2019 and June 2025 without frequent benefit use. While denying wrongdoing, Amazon agreed to simplify its cancellation process as part of the deal.
