Amazon has quietly expanded its Amazon Autos car sales program, which launched in late 2024 starting with Hyundai, to now include Kia, Mazda, Subaru, Chevrolet, and Jeep across more than 130 U.S. cities, letting customers browse inventory, complete financing paperwork, and purchase vehicles from nearby participating dealerships without spending the full day at a showroom. The program targets a market where U.S. dealerships sold around $1.3T in vehicles last year, and Amazon says the business also serves as a way to attract automotive advertising spend, with car companies projected to spend over $30B on ads this year. Early results have been mixed, with one South Bay Hyundai dealer reporting sales through Amazon dropping from around 10 vehicles a month to roughly five as issues with incomplete paperwork and inventory discrepancies surfaced.
