Meta’s Muse agent sends a user an unprompted message about checking his Gmail, which Meta blames on a bug it has since fixed

Meta’s Muse agent messaged a Houston software developer unprompted, saying it couldn’t check his Gmail for “that Anthropic message” even though he hadn’t connected email or opened the app in two days, according to an as-told-to essay by Agnes Applegate at Business Insider. Ugo Nwune said he had only let Muse into his Facebook, Instagram, and Threads accounts, and when he pressed it, the agent said it couldn’t tell whether someone else had used his phone or the platform had glitched. Meta said a bug it introduced made the model hallucinate, that the incident wasn’t a security or privacy problem, and that the bug is fixed. Nwune has since cut off Muse’s access to his accounts and plans to delete the app.
