OpenWeb, whose software runs comment sections and on-site communities for publishers, was declared insolvent by a Tel Aviv court that appointed a temporary receiver at the request of lender Mars Growth Capital over roughly $20 million in debt, according to Israel’s Globes. In court filings reported by Calcalist, OpenWeb said Mars seized $7.3 million from its accounts and blew up a restructuring that would have cut 55% of staff and brought in $14 million from investors. Mars countered that OpenWeb posted 2025 sales of $121.5 million against a $193.7 million forecast and failed to tell it promptly that Microsoft had dropped it over alleged invalid traffic, a claim OpenWeb denies. The company, valued at $1.5 billion in 2022, recently drew acquisition offers of about $100 million.
