Sen. Elizabeth Warren, joined by Sens. Tina Smith and Jeff Merkley, sent letters to the CEOs of Meta, Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft asking which AI and data center deductions each claimed under last year’s “one big beautiful bill” tax law and what lobbying they did before it passed, according to CNBC. Meta’s federal income tax bill fell to $2.8 billion in 2025 from $9.6 billion even though its profit barely moved, and the senators linked the drop to the $72 billion Meta spent last year, mostly on data centers and other AI projects. The letters cite smaller tax bills at the other three as well, including a drop of more than $11 billion at Microsoft, and suggest the savings are a payoff for companies that each gave $1 million to President Trump’s inauguration.
