Google is testing a Buy button on some Flipkart product listings in Gemini and AI Mode in India that opens Flipkart’s checkout while shoppers stay inside Google’s AI tools, according to TechCrunch. Only a small group of users can see it, and only on a limited set of phones, electronics, and accessories, but Google plans a wider rollout later in October, before India’s festive sales season. The checkout is Flipkart-branded rather than the Google-hosted version the company described when it launched the Universal Commerce Protocol in January, and it isn’t clear what technology runs the test. Google holds a minority stake in Flipkart, bought for about $350 million in 2024. Amazon listings appeared next to Flipkart’s in the test without a Buy button.
