Amazon, Stella McCartney, and Canopy launch a 60-member coalition pooling orders for low-carbon fashion materials to lower prices

Amazon co-founded the Climate Pledge Fashion Coalition with Stella McCartney and forest nonprofit Canopy, bringing in more than 60 brands, retailers, manufacturers and material makers, including Brooks Running, Selfridges and Vestiaire Collective. Members will pool their purchases of lower-carbon materials so fiber and fabric suppliers can count on steady, committed orders, since those suppliers need volume before they can lower prices and brands working on thin margins won’t pay a premium in the meantime. Members also get a catalog of more than 100 ways to decarbonize, with guidance for each fiber, and the World Economic Forum is helping design funding that pairs development lenders with private investors.
