OpenAI released a ChatGPT desktop app for Linux, in preview and available worldwide as of Tuesday. The app runs ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex, and supports desktop builds of Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04 LTS, Debian 13, and Fedora 43 and 44, which serve as the base for many downstream flavors. OpenAI called Linux one of its most-requested platforms and said the release puts ChatGPT and Codex on every major desktop operating system. Anthropic shipped its Claude desktop app for Linux roughly a month earlier, covering Ubuntu 22.04 or later and Debian 12 or later.
