OpenAI deletes publisher references from an ads job listing that described a sell-side ad business beyond ChatGPT’s inventory

OpenAI edited or deleted five sentences in a job posting for a support delivery lead in its ads division after Business Insider’s Lara O’Reilly asked about language describing a publisher-facing ad business, the first indication the company wants to sell ads on sites it doesn’t own. The original listing put publisher-side monetization and integration problems on the hire’s plate, alongside ad serving, inventory setup, and reporting. OpenAI has since said the job is about supporting agencies and brands, and it denied any move into demand extension, which pushes advertiser campaigns onto a network of outside sites. Publishers get no cut of ChatGPT ad revenue, and several including The New York Times and Ziff Davis are suing OpenAI over copyright.
