Zip, the BNPL and digital-payments provider, is expanding its partnership with Stripe to support Stripe's Shared Payment Tokens, a primitive that lets AI agents make purchases on a customer's behalf using their chosen payment method without exposing card credentials. Agentic checkout has so far run mostly on card-on-file payments, which leave out alternatives like installment plans, so Zip's support is meant to keep BNPL available when an AI agent handles the transaction. Because the tokens let agents pay without exposing a customer's real card details, Zip and Stripe also frame the approach as more secure than the card-on-file model it replaces. Stripe said the integration will go live soon and pitched it as a way to lift merchant conversion by giving buyers more ways to pay at AI-driven checkout.
