YouTube announced “Ask YouTube” at Google I/O 2026, a conversational AI search tool that lets users ask complex queries (such as tips on teaching a kid to ride a bike or finding creator reviews of cozy games) and ask follow-up questions, with the tool compiling the most relevant videos across YouTube's catalogue including long-form videos and Shorts into an interactive, structured response. YouTube also integrated Gemini Omni into YouTube Shorts Remix and the YouTube Create app, letting users remix eligible Shorts by adding their own prompts and images to create new versions while keeping the context of the original video, with all Omni-remixed Shorts including digital watermarks and links back to the original. Ask YouTube is currently available for U.S. Premium members aged 18 and up with a broader rollout planned, while Omni remixing is rolling out today at no cost, alongside an expansion of YouTube's likeness detection tool to all creators 18 and older.
