X cuts CMO and 20+ staff in restructuring as SpaceX’s potential $1 trillion IPO approaches

X let go of chief marketing officer Angela Zepeda and more than 20 nontechnical staff in marketing and other departments over the past several weeks, eliminating roles deemed redundant following X's merger with xAI last year and xAI's subsequent merger with SpaceX in early February. Remaining X staff have been directed to focus on revenue growth under new chief revenue officer Jon Shulkin, who is also tasked with boosting sales across both X and xAI, as both platforms trail competitors in advertising and enterprise AI revenue. X's U.S. ad revenue is projected to grow just 1.5% to $1.27B this year, according to Emarketer, a fraction of the $4.51B in ad revenue Twitter reported in 2021, the last year it disclosed financials before Musk took the company private.
