Uber’s product chief details a push into hotels, shopping, fintech, and AV data while rejecting the ‘everything app’ label

Uber Chief Product Officer Sachin Kansal detailed the company’s expansion beyond ride-hailing and delivery into hotels, shopping, and financial services, while insisting Uber does not want to be an “everything app,” according to TechCrunch. Kansal cast travel as Uber’s third pillar, pointing to Expedia-powered hotel bookings and a “shop for me” concierge, while keeping fintech to driver debit cards and credits and leaving BNPL to outside partners. Uber is also building AV Labs, a unit outfitting hundreds of vehicles with sensors to gather driving data for autonomous-vehicle partners, which doubles as a hedge against rivals like Waymo that are also partners. Kansal said Uber now sells labeled data to GenAI firms through its earner base, a new line it is bullish on, and sees AI enabling a future agentic Uber that books whole trips.
