Trump rejects the AI industry’s calls for regulation, calling warnings about the technology a hoax and naming Dario Amodei

Trump rejected the AI industry’s own calls for regulation in Monday posts, writing that all AI needs is “a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT” and describing warnings about AI destroying humanity as a hoax. He named Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, whose weekend essay urged a worldwide slowdown in AI development, and said his administration already wields criminal and regulatory authority over the companies, without specifying what that covers. Demis Hassabis, Elon Musk, and Sam Altman have endorsed the slowdown too, which Vice President JD Vance called a Trojan horse, saying it feels strange for AI companies to beg Washington for rules. Speaker Mike Johnson wants to convene a meeting with AI executives by late next week, but the House has canceled its remaining September votes.
