TikTok introduced a “TikTok Minis” section dedicated to “micro dramas”, low-budget, vertical soap operas popularized in China, allowing users to watch and pay for content without leaving the app. The initiative aims to reduce funnel friction for the surging format, which is projected to generate $3 billion in global revenue this year, by offering 10% discounts to users who transact within TikTok rather than external apps. While the platform is pitching producers on ad-revenue sharing and licensing fees up to $10,000 per original series, major players like ReelShort and DramaBox are notably absent from the initial rollout, likely to protect their direct monetization control.
