TikTok faces a proposed class action alleging a June 2026 data breach exposed the personal information of 2.4 billion users, filed in California federal court by plaintiff Sean Mortazi. Exposed data allegedly included names, usernames, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, gender, language, and location, with a hacker group said to have posted it online. Mortazi argues TikTok failed to implement adequate security despite knowing it was a high-value target, and could have used measures like strict multi-factor authentication and tighter access to sensitive data. Suit accuses TikTok of negligence, invasion of privacy, unjust enrichment, and violations of California privacy and consumer laws, seeking damages and injunctive relief for a nationwide class and California subclass.
